Katrina Schauland Watkins grew up in rural Minnesota in a family who embraced their faith, hard work, and the outdoors. Those values helped prepare Katrina for the new adventure of teaching Christian education in the gloriously outdoorsy location of Kodiak. She and her husband Larry married in 2014 and absolutely love being married, valuing that 2nd only to their faith in the Lord. The Watkins transferred to Kodiak in the summer of 2018; Larry is a Chief in the US Coast Guard.
Katrina graduated from Ripon College in Wisconsin. Since then, most of her background has been in the non-profit sector, focusing heavily on effective communication and writing skills. She did training with adults at her previous job, so working with middle school students has been an interesting and rewarding experience. Katrina appreciates the opportunity to develop their skills in writing, critical thinking, and problem solving. Above all, she leans on the Lord to help nurture and grow their faith and relationship with Jesus. She currently teaches grades 5-8 in Bible, English, and History.
